From Crashed Qubits to Careers Catapulted: The Quantum Year is Here!

 General   Events   Must Read

Dear QLeapers & Friends,

๐ŸŽ‰ Happy New Year of Quantum! ๐ŸŽ‰

No joke—it’s official! The United Nations has declared this the Year of Quantum, so let’s make it count.

If you’ve been following the news, you might have noticed a electrifying flux of attention on quantum stocks. While bubbles may burst (almost a principle of certainty), the good news is this: the next two years might deliver breakthroughs faster than the last twenty -- that is, as a by-product.

Maybe it’s time for another talk, just like the Quantum Finance one we did a while back.

Upcoming Events: Learning, Labs, and Leaps

๐Ÿš€ Weekly Quantum Computing (QC) Workshop
Aside from educational events designed to inform the larger community, for those ready to dive headfirst into the quantum realm, we’re launching a weekly workshop to explore the fundamentals of quantum computing. Whether you’re curious about quantum gates or gearing up for a quantum-related career, this workshop has you covered!

  • When: Fridays, 12:00–1:30 PM (starting this Fri 1/17)
  • Where: Gyte 181
  • What: Tutorials on the basics + hands-on labs building quantum circuits and experimenting on real quantum hardware.

๐Ÿ’ก Higher Energy Ahead: Dedicated participants may secure a spot on a trip to join a high-profile quantum hackathon at Yale this April.

๐ŸŒŒ Summer Opportunities
For those committed to going full Schrödinger, there’s more in the pipeline:

  • QC Internships at Fermilab
  • Open Quantum Initiative Undergraduate Fellowship

Interested? Send me a note ASAP—this is where a little quantum speedup will come in handy.

Craving More Quantum?

Good news: PNW is planning to offer not one but two quantum courses this fall!

  1. Intro to Quantum Computing: Perfect for aspiring qubit wranglers.
  2. How Quantum Is Transforming Our World: For everyone, regardless of their major, curious about how QIST (Quantum Information Science & Technology) will shape future careers.

๐Ÿ“‹ But wait—there’s a catch: These courses need enough pre-enrollments to launch. So, spread the word and pre-register now: Pre-register here! More details about the courses can also be found there!

Spring Welcome Rallies '25

๐ŸŽญ Quantum Levitation—sort of!
We’ll be at the Spring Welcome Rallies this Wednesday (1/15), 12:00–2:00 PM @ SULB (Table 19). While we couldn’t find liquid nitrogen (alas, the joys of sourcing cryogenics), we’ve cooked up a deep-fake levitation demo using some other fundamental forces of nature.

๐Ÿ“ Location: First floor Concourse of SULB, across from the Café, facing the south entrance (or NILS).

Stop by, say hi, and if you’re up for it, help us set up and drum up everyone's interest in our club!

Looking forward to getting entangled with you soon—at the Rallies, the Workshop, or wherever our wave(function)s cross path!

Best wishes for a superposition of success and fun this semester,

Shawn

PS - Our Officer Election is coming up in March (more details to follow). But do drop me a note if interested...
